Memorial Day

Memorial Day

We had a neighborhood picnic yesterday for Memorial Day. Now, if you read this blog even a little bit, you know I love my neighbors. Yesterday was a really fun (and delicious) day but the one thing that stood out for me was when we were all out in front of our host neighbors’ house watching the littler kids ride around on a battery-powered John Deere tractor. And someone raised their glass to (and I can’t remember what they said) those who sacrificed their lives so we could have our goofy picnic and so that our little kids could safely ride around on the silly tractor. There was something so true and real when everyone came together and raised their drink or just their hand. I like to think this was happening in neighborhoods around the whole country – no matter your politics (we certainly don’t all agree around here!), just a moment to honor those who are gone. I don’t know, it was just a really, really nice moment. I’m glad my older boys were there to toast as well. Posted on Tuesday, May 29, 2007, 01:44 AM (UTC -4)
